Art Container Project SINCE 2008

The Art Container Project combines the creativity of top local artists, professionals in the container and logistics industries, as well as experts from the business sector. They join their hands to discover an extraordinary journey of art. Organised by MIA (Mere Independent Artists) and co-oragnised by Asia Container Leasing Co. Ltd., it is a project originated in Hong Kong and a collaboration of the art circle and other sectors.

The concept behind the project is connecting art with the containers, which are functional objects. When the art containers are used to carry cargos and taken to different places of the world, they will serve as art ambassadors to introduce our artworks to the world in their journeys.

In May 2008, exciting departure events were held in the West Kowloon Cultural District, including Art Container Painting In-Progress, Art Container Departure Exhibition and Mini Art Container Exhibition. The first batch of art containers have already embarked on their first journey in July 2008. Tracking of the art containers and related exchange activities are on the way!

Artiple – An Artist Product Project

The concept of Artiple started from 2006. It was created in a time when artists and audience still in a rather distant relationship. So the hope of bridging the gap between the audience and the artworks had been formed. When the audience can appreciate art from an alternative angle, they can share more the artists’ creativeness and spirit.

Artiple encourages artists to use their original idea to develop a simpler and direct content, then transform it into everyday objects so the audience can appreciate and touch the works in their daily life.

We had invited 25 artists to develop Artiples. There are a variety of works, from many different styles to many different media. All artiples are made by the artists’ hands, and the price is affordable. These artiples not only combine the funs and practical sides of living, they also reflect the artists’ experimentation on materials and creation.

Artiples have begun from the Mere Independent Artists. From then on, we can see many co-operations have been started by commercial and non-commercial organizations.

For an art organization like Mere Independent Artists, individual art creation is still the most important part. We have successfully brought this project to the public and have motivated many others to continue. We feel that it is a time to make a temporary stop to this project. From April 2009, we will still keep the Artiples on our web site. If there are people who are still interested in Artiples, we are more than happy to refer you to the artists.

We are proud to have presented this project and we hope that more people will know more about Hong Kong art and they will support art in Hong Kong. We express our thanks to all our supporters here, participated artists, volunteers, buyers, staffs and audience.
